Poem # 44

empty words

never again will i be victim

of desire run awry

never again to drown

in the wake that others ply

never again shall i let strings

of heart be plucked and pulled

like Geppetto's puppet

a marionette of the soul

never again shall i allow

myself deceived and lulled

a fortress intellectual

shall guard heart visceral

i would not risk it though reward

be joy beyond belief

for words are merely empty

sounds, save them for another's grief

He said, "Why should I tarry?"

And smiled with tranquil eye;

"In destinies sad or merry,

True men can but try."

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
