Wishes

I wish there was a God

to ease our heartfelt pain,

I wish there was a Deity

to shelter us in rain,

I wish there was a Power

to comfort broken hearts,

I wish there was an Entity

to show us where to start;

I wish there was a Spirit

to sustain our weary souls,

I wish there was a Father

to wipe our tears that flow,

I wish there was a Being

to help us find our way,

I wish there was a Mother

to redeem our darkest days.

A wish in one hand,

and nothing in the other;

better to wish upon a star

than any god or savior.

While some souls wish for riches

and some for power or fame

my wish – the noblest one of all –

has always been the same:

“Star light, star bright,

first star I see tonight,

I wish I may, I wish I might,

find Happiness and Love’s delight.

 He said, "Why should I tarry?"

And smiled with tranquil eye;

"In destinies sad or merry,

True men can but try."
