Post-Modern Art and Its Influence on Literature
Post-modern art (Abstract Expressionism, Pop, and Minimalism, etc) heavily influenced literature in all of its forms.
It is a movement gradually away from "form" and a focus purely on "content" so that what we once considered "traditional"
art (paint on canvas) was allowed a greater range of expression and freedom.
In this spirit, I have begun in late March of 2007 to experiment, too, with post-modern literary art such as poetry and
have dubbed my creations "alphaforms," insinuating that the form of my poetry is purely alpha-numeric, non-rhyming and coldly
detatched from tradition, while the content remains unchanged. Like post-modern art, I have changed (though
not quite removed) the "form" in ways that I find representative of today's post-industrialized info-centric culture.
By merging elements of post-modern art and literature with a deconstructive emphasis, I am attempting to move the art
of poetry to a new textual level where form and content are more illustrative of one another. It is an experiment I
relish and have thrown myself into whole-heartedly. By hiding both textual references and, therefore, some sense of
meaning within the text of each poem, I strive for a means of providing thoughtful elucidation and rhetorical introspection
for my reader.
I hope you enjoy what I have thus far created. |
