Poem # 53

pleas please

pleas pleas

empty pleas

crying out please

comfort my weary soul

pleas pleas

no response

from God or man

only numbness

and dismay

worthless despair

no tears I shed

I shed them long ago

pleas pleas

no moving forward or

moving back

please tend my sorry soul

searching feeling

longing knowing

even bitterness of this fruit

i’ve sown

reaped in heartache

loss unknown

no questions answered

no questions asked

pleas pleas

empty pleas

the longing long unknown

please release my soul

no word relieves

the longing and desire

to comfort

only tasteless torment

of the war

i’ve lost

and the life

worthless

pleas pleas

my dirty soiled soul

exhaustion too deep

to rise too deep to move

no pleas i’ll make

anymore

no going back

no giving back

what trust was lost

please revisit me

no more

please please

He said, "Why should I tarry?"

And smiled with tranquil eye;

"In destinies sad or merry,

True men can but try."

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
