Song # 2

I'll Be Alright

Verse 1

Drivin’ all night, chasing headlights

That streak down this lonely road

The sun is set, the world grows dark

No dawn will my heart know

Windows down, the cold wind blows

My future within these hills unfolds

And a past I can’t erase

Mistakes I made

A hundred miles down this road . . .

Chorus

Put the pedal down on this blacktop road

Let me leave the past behind

Driving 85 on Highway 91

Not knowing what I’ll find

These rollin’ hills and farms and fields

Lie witness to my flight

Faster still, no slowin’ down

No lookin’ behind tonight

Verse 2

The night sky turns, these cylinders burn

And still no end in sight

My rearview mirror grows pink and gold

With the dawn of love’s false light

Faster now, these wheels still race

Toward restless dreams I chose

And a past I can’t outpace

Mistakes I made

Two hundred miles down this road . . .

Chorus

Put the pedal down on this blacktop road

Let me leave the past behind

Driving 95 on Highway 91

Not knowing what I’ll find

These rollin’ hills and farms and fields

Lie witness to my flight

Faster still, no slowin’ down

No lookin’ behind tonight

Verse 3

Unsettled dreams that always seem

Just beyond that far horizon

Another day comes, I make my way

So much left unsaid, undone

And still I drive, this engine hums

‘til I see that risin’ sun

And a past I gotta face

I made mistakes

Three hundred miles down this road . . .

Chorus

Put the pedal down on this blacktop road

Let me leave the past behind

Driving 105 on Highway 91

Not knowing what I’ll find

These rollin’ hills and farms and fields

Lie witness to my flight

Faster still, no slowin’ down

I know what I was, and I know who I am

Now I see that morning light

And I know I’ll be alright

He said, "Why should I tarry?"

And smiled with tranquil eye;

"In destinies sad or merry,

True men can but try."
