Poem # 58

wet autumn day

autumn leaves lie

littered along the streets

wet, sloppy masses

crunch no more

liquid life showers

the soon slumbering stems

sprouting among the cracks of

once monolithic stone,

puddles pooling now in

cracks and depressions

flowing, falling

falling, flowing

until they worry themselves

frantic to find

their way home

along the leaf filled

gutters, growing

engorging themselves

like ravenous beasts

taking their fall fill

He said, "Why should I tarry?"

And smiled with tranquil eye;

"In destinies sad or merry,

True men can but try."

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
