of the millions of species that have ever lived
we're blessed above them all
we possess the trait of forgiveness
yet offer it to none
of all the inherent qualities
that set us apart from the animal world
the traits of love and empathy
and forgiveness mark us all
neither intellect nor conscious thought
distinguish our humanity
what separates us most from the animal world
is our willingness to pardon one another
yet ironically that most precious trait
we have, we rarely give
the ability to absolve and love
unconditionally
I hold within me the power to give
that which others cannot:
I forgive all who have done wrong to anyone else;
why can't I, too, be forgiven?
